Real Hot 100
I am on a mailing list for an organization called Women’s Prerogative. I think my sister-in-law sent me an email about them and I signed up. I have to confess I normally just delete the emails as many of them deal with issues or events specific to the Baltimore-Washington area. One that I opened today caught my eye as it had the catchy title of “Really Hot Women” and my spam filter didn’t nuke it. Interesting. Apparently an affiliated group has started a concept called the “REAL hot 100“.
The REAL hot 100 are young women who are smart, savvy, and actively trying to make the world a better place. They contradict the popular notion that sex appeal is all young women have to offer. The REAL hot 100 also highlights the important — but often overlooked — work young women are doing.
This new group is soliciting nominations for women that you think qualify. I will confess that I normally dislike female only — just about anything — as I find that the tone of such programs to be quite divisive. However, at least upon cursory glance, this seems geared simply to celebrate women who are YOUNG, smart, savvy and actively trying to make the world a better place.
I have been pondering a set of posts (inspired by the “Friends of Ben” posts on Ben’s Blog) to acknowledge and honor my mentors, past and present. They are mostly men, and like me, unlikely to make that “young” hurdle; however, there are several women in the community that have inspired me simply because they are indeed “smart, savvy and actively trying to make the world a better place.” They may no longer qualify as “young” but they certainly deserve to be honored.
