People Watching
I’m writing this at the United Club at LAX. Worried about flight delays, I planned a 4 hour layover into my itinerary. Definitely more than needed! But I mostly cleared my work email which is a bonus. Of course, my flight from Denver arrived about 20 minutes early. And my next flight is scheduled literally out of the next gate (and perhaps a 3 minute walk from this United Club) and not in the International Terminal which I thought I’d need time to get to, and perhaps get security screened, again.
And side note, have you used the United App successfully to scan your passport? I tried for like 30 + minutes last night (Android app) and failed. Tips and tricks? I ended up having to get a paper boarding pass at the airport. In theory my passport is now saved, so perhaps I can skip that step when it’s time to come home.
They have improved the United Club experience. I had beef bulgogi for dinner. It was surprisingly delicious for airport food sitting on a food warmer. More fun is the people watching. Travel attire is curious. A gentleman at the bar is wearing shorts, gloves with just his fore fingers and thumbs uncovered, and a hat. My next flight is scheduled to take 15 hours…so I’m dressed comfortably (jeans, fleece jacket)…the range here is pajamas (not just on the kids) to suits. But most people here are likely scheduled for overnight flights. I admire those going for it in what I’d consider work or formal attire.
I am a shameless eavesdropper but most folks are travelling solo, and either napping or entertaining themselves on a laptop or cell phone. And of course I’m in my own solo bubble outside of the action doing the same.
