Is this thing on?
I spent 8 years over at Typepad which is weirdly still live – https://workinprogress.blogs.com/ – with my last post in 2012.
I spent more than a decade on Fatcow (now part of Bluehost). And yes, every time I logged in to write something it was a reminder to not be an actual fat cow. It’s time to move on from that persona.
After much deliberation I moved over to HostGator. Mostly it came down to wanting my PHP version and SQL database to be the most current version(s), not paying extra for SSL, and perhaps having the chance to speak to an actual human if I needed support. There may be better hosts, but I think this is going to work for me.
My consume vs create ratio is still terrible. And now with all of the AI generated content out there, is there anything new to say?
I still stumble across things that interest me – example – mouse experiments from the 50’s and the potential destruction of humanity based on current trends?! I posted that article to Facebook and crickets. I still prefer long form but it’s a lost art. If post a photo, of anything, I get some engagement, but egad, stuff that turns my world view upside down and I want feedback on. Nothing.
I have two new favorite supplements – Taurine and HMG – which may slow aging and/or delay Alzheimer’s disease (side note, these may also help me keep strong! bonus!). Risks to taking a gram or two a day – apparently zero. Potential upside – healthy brain until I die from something else. Yes, I’m am taking these.
After more than a decade of regular Hot Yoga, my new favorite thing is Pure Barre. I was doing PT for my knee, and it was working a bit. After 3 classes of Pure Barre my knee pain was almost resolved after 6+ months of discomfort. I’m 149 classes in, after less than year. I just love it. You can find me there most days at 5:30 a.m. This photo was taken after a special short “intensive” that gave me DOMs for like 3 days. It was the prize for finishing a challenge! I realize that is wrong in so many ways, and yet, I just signed up for another challenge!
And for the last 3+ years, I’ve been biking, a lot. Mostly on Strava. All of my best photos are there now – raw, unfiltered. Most recently in France following the Tour de France. Fun. And yes, biking in Colorado is good prep for biking the alps and similar.
Before climbing yet another 8% grade up the Petit Ballon.
