Day 6: Sydney
Today was my last full day in Sydney. The weather was perfect. Sunny, breezy, low 80s. Aside from walking almost 20,000 steps today, it’s probably easier to sum up this trip by what I didn’t see, vs. what I did.
I did not get to Wicked Weasel. By the time I realized it was just 2 km away from hotel, it was closed. Now granted their attire is made for younger bodies, but I’ve been following their fashion for almost a decade. I would have loved to see their fashions in person but I’m not really sad to miss this. I did not get to the Aquarium or the Zoo or any of the many museums. I did not hug a koala.
I slept in, as I have most days this trip, drank a few cups of coffee and cleared my work inbox as best I could. I wandered a few miles before heading to the Circular Quay to catch a ferry to Manly Beach. The ferries here take the same Opal Pass as the trains and busses. Easy.
It was nice to get an unobstructed view of the Opera House.
Manly Beach was very smokey from the nearby fires. But that wasn’t keeping people away. Most of the people, on the ferry I took, had bathing suits on. I walked end to end. It was great people watching with lots of surfers, even on a weekday. There was a good mix of sun worshippers and men in suits under the cabanas working away on laptops. The bike lanes were nicely segregated from pedestrian walkways.
I had lunch at Guzman Y Gomez in Manly Beach. Based on the internet reviews, it was supposed to be like Chipotle. No. Just No. It was fine, but the comparisons set expectations that made it more disappointing than it should have been.
I did a bit more wandering in the afternoon, but mostly was ready to do laundry, clear a bit more work email, & start packing for my long journey home.
so the long journey home begins, safe travels my friend. hopefully you’ll have a different set of movies on the way back 😉
funny comment Clay! same movies, tho’ I did find some new ones to watch: Rocketman (good, interesting), Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (ok, expected more from this one), I am Mother (OK for post-apocalyptic sci fi maybe really good given the cast like 2 people). I need a movie time out!
