Happy Mother’s Day
It’s so easy to look back and wish that my mother had been a different sort of mother or that I had been a different sort of daughter. I think it is safe to say that we did not and most often do not see eye to eye. It’s not that either of us are bad people but merely that we view the world in completely different ways with almost no common perspective. It has made it very difficult to communicate through the years, to find a common point of reference.
There have been far too many recent head lines about bad mothers that I really just have to say thank you for not being one of them.
Thank you, for not selling me to a pedophile for $3,000 when I was a rebellious 15 year old.
Thank you, for not locking me in a tiny dog kennel each night.
Thank you, for not starving me to death.
I’m sad to say that all of these headlines were from the past week. Perspective is everything. I had it great.
Thank you mom & Happy Mother’s day.
Thanks, you are great and this is a great post. Nice reminder for all of us.
Hi Jennifer,
Thanks for the comment. I worried that this post would be perceived as harsh when I meant it in the most sincere and heartfelt way. Thanks for getting it!
Over the past week I can add:
-Thank you for not microwaving me as a baby.
-Thank you for not asking me to pretend to be retarded so that you could collect benefits.
